Before I engage on posting more images from the Mick Twyman collection for pleasure and for sharing.I think I should give the heads up on exactly what the Mick Twyman collection is about.
All through his life Mick collected all and everything to do with the history of Margate. In total it is now estimated that the collection is well over 6000 images and most of it has now been scanned by John and Janet Robinson. John and Janet are co authors of the book "Margate through Time" with Anthony Lee.
Anthony Lee is the owner of the Margate local history website which can be found on my side bar on the right. On the Anthony Lee site there many of the Mick Twyman's images I do not have plus there is an amazing collection of prints all well researched
Mick wrote hundreds of articles that featured mostly in the magazine Bygonne Margate produced by the Margate Historical society. Mick co wrote articles with Alf Beeching, John Williams and Chris Sandwell.
Alf earned the title "legs" Beeching because when Mick was ill he did a lot of the running about plus he is remarkable researcher. John Williams is another local historian and his specialist subject is aviation and he has recently completed a book on the complete history of Manston Airport. Chris Sandwell is a local maritime historian and his specialist subject is the Margate RNLI and its lifeboats.
Together with Mick they produced many articles that are now being republished through the Margate Museum. Eve, Micks wife will also be reproducing his work on paddle steamers.
Due to Mick's sudden death there are also many unpublished works and I understand that Mick's co writer Alf "legs" Beeching will carry on this work.
Looking through the archive on my blog there are many articles and photographs Mick gave me when he was alive with the intention of sharing so please feel to download or whatever.
