With all the uncertainty surrounding the ferry service from Ramsgate I thought readers would like a taste of how it was over 50 years ago with this advert for the "Queen of the Channel". The advert came from the back of a Granville Theatre programme for the "Eddie Payne Show" September 1958 . On the programme the "Queen of the Channel" was sailing under Eagle Steamers, on the postcard below it is sailing under the General Steam Navigation Company and I am assuming the GNSQ postcard is the later view.
In the archive of the Margate Museum there is the Sunbeam collection, in part of the collection are black and white photographs of the East Pier with the Queen of the Channel berthed alongside. The photographs when taken at the time were pretty average views at the time but because of the quality they have captured the amazing detail of the East Pier in the 1950's.
