He used to live here Sir Thomas Staines


Sir Thomas Staines was a naval hero and a close friend of Nelson, he served his country well and had a illustrious naval career. He was born at Dent de Lion , Garlinge in 1774 and lived at Grove House , Garlinge.

Just called the missus who wasborn in Garlinge to see if she knew where the house was and then read to the end and find its not there anymore . Nice one Tony

I was also born in Garlinge. I remember delivering newspapers (for Norman Lownes the newsagent) to the flats at Grove House around 1957. I believe American servicemen from Manston and their families were living there at the time.
Also there was always an abundant supply of conkers in the grounds! Happy Happy days.

Oops! perhaps I'm confused. The American families were staying at Dent-De-Lion House not Grove House which was a little further down the road. Anyway neither of them are there now....and nor are the conker trees.

grove house is still there, they just used its grounds to build the then new houses on. The house is up oak tree grove and has been conv to flats
